Castagne means chestnut… in italian.
These trees were very important in many places. Bringing materials for the carpenters, pickets for fences, wood to heat houses and dry the chestnuts which were often turned into flour. The mountains were shaped to help the harvest and « sécadou » the traditional name of the tiny buidings used to dry the chsetnuts, are still very familiar in the local landscapes. Most of these trees are no longer taken care of. Different deseases lead the locals to choose other flours. Many older ones are dead but younger wood keeps rising.
This series is no stranger to one of my main mania : Fouillis végétal (fouillis means mess)
